Working Families

Modern life can be complicated. Our obligations to immediate family, extended family, our work and careers, leave little time for ourselves, and this creates tension that can distract us from being our best. Burns Matteson helps clients free their time so they can approach their non-financial life with greater comfort, clarity, and ease. Our experience with a wide range of financial concerns can reduce your anxiety and increase your peace-of-mind.

Let Burns Matteson take over the worry of “am I saving enough for retirement” or “will I be able to afford college for my children without loans”. Our financial planning and investment management process helps you define what is most important to you and your family, and then we work on your behalf to keep you on track to meet those goals and future needs.

Retirees

Making the transition from saving money each pay period, to starting to spend your hard-earned nest egg, can be very difficult. Instead of retiring “from” something, we assist our clients with retiring “to “something. Let Burns Matteson help you make your future brighter than your past.

Prior to retirement we will review your savings, debts, and goals to create a plan that reflects both your resources and your commitments. We will make sure you know your current spending levels and what changes need to be made before you make the commitment to retire.

Post-retirement, Burns Matteson will allocate your assets towards preserving wealth while creating income to support your standard of living and remaining life goals, including any assistance required for the next generation of your family.

PENTA AND DECAMILLIONAIRE FAMILIES

Families with $5 million to $10 million or more of financial assets, business interests, and real estate, sometimes face problems or worries that are different from other wealthy families.

Many of these families must navigate corporate benefit programs that your average financial planning firms are not familiar with, such as: Reporting requirements for Section 16 corporate officers, SEC 10b5-1 trading plans for corporate insiders, qualified and non-qualified stock option programs, restricted stock units (RSUs), non-qualified executive pension plans, etc. The proper planning, timing and utilization of these programs is critical for both your future financial well-being as well as your current income tax obligations.

In addition to complex benefit plans, once you have accumulated enough assets for your own lifestyle and retirement, you must then contend with how to pass on those assets to either the next generation, charities, or both. Most parents would like to know that their children and grandchildren are provided for, but if you provide “too much”, will the next generation inherit the same motivation and work ethic that generated the assets for the first generation? We work with high-net-worth families on not only the monetary aspects of multi-generational wealth transfer, but with the emotional aspects as well.

Let Burns Matteson relieve some of the worry related to wealth, as your independent and objective counsel, coordinating strategies with your other advisors and benefits departments, and even meeting with your next-generation family members as needed. A New Generation

At Burns Matteson we know how bright the future looks, because we have helped our clients pass on their work ethic, as well as their financial assets, to their children and grandchildren. A new generation is ready to take on leadership positions in their careers, communities, and families and we are excited to see the results. Burns Matteson can help these early strivers with sensible, personal advice across many topic areas.

We can help you balance the need to pay off student loans against the desire to start building assets. Our investment process can help you invest your savings in a way that acknowledges your values and your goals, along with your capacity for risk. We can help you budget your resources to ensure that your highest priorities are met.

We know how important first steps are and we stand ready to offer our young clients the best advice as they begin their financial journey. If you are interested in starting that journey with Burns Matteson, please contact us.

Charitable and Non-Profit Organizations

Charities and Non-Profit groups must take care to properly steward both their financial resources as well as the donors and supporters of their organization. The board members, trustees, and officers of these groups must be able to show their auditors and regulators the steps they have taken to ensure the proper management of their endowment and financial assets.

Burns Matteson assists these groups in preparing a well-defined investment process that can lay the framework for the long-term investment of endowment assets, short-term assistance with cash flow via the income generated from the portfolio, the scheduling of various capital improvements and campaigns, or a combination of all three.

Burns Matteson is available to speak with donors and potential donors of the organization, to counsel them on the most tax efficient ways to support the charity or non-profit, such as making donations via appreciated stock, or naming the charity in their will and estate plan.

Our goal is to take away some of the burden and nervousness board members face concerning the longevity and financial stability of their organizations, and we are happy to meet with the board on a regular basis.

Let Burns Matteson be your partner to help ensure the success of your mission and your organization into the future. If you are interested in learning more about how we can assist with your charity or non-profit organization, please contact us.
